There is no denying that Barcelona is one of the best clubs in the Spanish Soccer League. And there is also no denying that the greatness of this team – as indeed the greatness of any soccer team – is a direct result of its incredible players.
Indeed, going through the list of Barca’s players is like going through a list of ‘who is who’ in Spanish (and indeed in the global) soccer scene. Put the question as to who is the top player in soccer today, for instance, and chances are that some of the names in Barca’s stable will be mentioned not a few times.
Barca’s incredible players can be seen as falling into two categories.
In the first category are Barca’s ‘home grown’ players: players the club ‘discovered’ (typically when they were playing for smaller teams), adopted them and developed them to be soccer stars.
In the second category are the players that Barca has bought from other big clubs, both locally and internationally. One good example of these, whose recent acquisition was very highly publicized is Zlatan Ibrahimovic. For him, the club had to give Italy’s Inter FC over 10 million Euros, in addition to handing over one of its top stars, Samuel Eto’o to Inter as part of the deal.
